Trip Itinerary

 

Your trip starts at  Guwahati Airport.

DAY 1 -  Guwahati - Samdrup Jongkhar

 

  • After arrival, proceed to the immigration counter and complete all formalities.

  • You will be met with your chauffeur/ guide outside the terminal.

  • Transfer to Samdrup Jongkhar (gateway to eastern Bhutan).

  • Check in to your accommodation and relax.

DAY 2 - Samdrup Jongkhar - Trashi Gang) (9 Hrs Drive)

  • After breakfast, drive to Trashigang, a 9-hour drive from Samdrup Jongkhar, with beautiful villages and landscapes on the way.

  • Check into your accommodation in Trashigang and rest.

DAY 3 - Trashigang - Day Excursion to Trashiyangtse (3 Hrs Drive)

  • After breakfast, begin your excursion towards Trashiyangtse.

  • Visit the temple of Gom Kora and Doksum Village, where you can see women busily weaving traditional Bhutanese fabric

  • Reach Tashiyangtse, the administrative center for this district, famous for its unique wooden crafts.

  • Visit the Tashiyangtse Dzong, the dazzling white stupa of Chorten Kora.

  • Visit the institute for Zorig Chusum, where students are trained in Bhutan’s 13 traditional arts and crafts.

  • Overnight at your accommodation in Trashigang.

DAY 4 - Trashigang – Mongar (4 Hrs Drive)​

  • After breakfast, drive to Mongar.

  • Drive to Mongar through leafy forests filled with ferns and over Kori-La Pass (2,450m) before ascending through cornfields and banana groves to reach Mongar town.

  • Visit Mongar Dzong, built in the 1930s using the traditional process without either plans or the use of nails.

  • Overnight at your accommodation in Mongar.

DAY 5 - Mongar - Bumthang (5-6 hrs Drive) 

 

  • After breakfast, continue your journey towards Bumthang.

  • The journey to Bumthang takes about 6 hours with spectacular views en route.

  • Drive to the highest point on Bhutan’s road network, Thrumshing-La Pass (4,000m).

  • Descend through Ura village, where the road gradually passes through picturesque alpine valleys, pine forests.

  • Check in to your accommodation in Bumthang.

  • Overnight in Bumthang.

DAY 6 - Bumthang (Halt)

 

  • Enjoy a day exploring the many sites around Bumthang.

  • Visit the 16th-century Tang Ugyen Chholing Palace Museum, which offers an overview of traditional rural life in Bhutan.

  • See the pool of Mebartso (Lake of Fire), where Pemalingpa, founder of the Nyingmapa sect, is believed to have discovered a treasure hidden by Guru Rinpoche.

  • Visit Jakar Dzong (Dzong of the White Bird).

  • Explore the 16th-century Tamshing Lhakhang, known for its ancient Buddhist wall paintings.

  • After lunch, visit Kurje Lhakhang, one of the most sacred places in the kingdom.

  • Continue to the 7th-century Jambay Lhakhang.

  • Overnight at your accommodation in Jakar, Bumthang.

Day 7 - Bumthang-Gangtey (Phobjika Valley) 4-5 hrs drive​

  • Transfer to Phobjikha Valley via the Yutong La Pass (3300).

  • Phobjikha is one of Bhutan’s few glacial valleys, and the chosen winter home of black-necked cranes (November – March) migrating from the Tibetan plateau.

  • After lunch, visit the Phobjikha Sanctuary to view the majestic black-necked cranes (Nov-Mar only)

  • Visit Gangtey Gompa (Monastery), dating back to the 16th century.

  • Overnight at your accommodation in Phobjikha

DAY 8 - Phobjikha to Punakha (3 hrs drive) 

 

  • After breakfast, proceed towards Punakha.

  • Visit Punakha Dzong (built 1637).

  • Walk to Chimi Lhakhang, temple of Lama Drukpa Kunley (the Divine Madman).

  • Overnight in Punakha/Wangdue.

  

DAY 9 - Punakha to Thimphu (3 hrs drive)

  • Drive to the capital, Thimphu.

  • Once a rustic village, Thimphu is today the nation’s capital.

  • Enjoy a visit to the National Memorial Chorten, completed by the Royal Queen Mother as a memorial stupa for the Third King.

  • Tour the Traditional Paper Factory.

  • Explore a replica of a medieval farmhouse at the Folk Heritage Museum.

  • Overnight at your accommodation in Thimphu.

DAY 10 - Thimphu to Paro

  • Drive to Paro (approximately 1–2 hours), have lunch, and explore Paro.

  • Visit the Ta Dzong Museum, housing religious relics, works of art, and handicrafts that provide insight into Bhutan’s historical, cultural, and religious heritage.

  • Continue to Rimpong Dzong, where you can see the painting of the great saint Milarepa.

  • Learn about Dzongs, large monasteries, and district administrative centers that once served as strategic forts.

  • Overnight at your accommodation in Paro.

DAY 11 -  Paro ( Paro Tsechu or festival )

  • After breakfast, proceed to witness the Paro Tsechu festivities. (Only applicable during festival season).

  • Attend the Paro Tsechu (festival with mask dances and local performances). 

  • Overnight in Paro.

DAY 12 - Paro (Hike to Tiger's Nest)​

  • After breakfast, hike to Taktsang Monastery (for those who cannot hike, we will arrange a horse for transfer up to the cafeteria).

  • The walk of approximately 1.5 to 2 hours uphill takes you almost a km above the Paro Valley floor.

  • Afterward, drive to the ruins of the 17th-century Drukgyel Dzong, and 7th-century Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the 108 temples constructed by the Tibetan king Songtsen Gampo.

  • Evening group dinner and drinks.

DAY 13 - Departure

• After breakfast, transfer to Paro Airport for departure.
