Whether you're a Buddhist or not, the main thing to do in Bodh Gaya is to just absorb the vibe of the place where the Buddha attained awakening: the vapour trail of that energy is still in the air!

 

Trip 

 

  • Leave Calcutta by Train SDAH Ajmer Express at 23.05 and reach Gaya junction by 06.15.

  • Take the bus to main Bodh Gaya city which is 16 km from Gaya junction

  • Stay in the Buddhist Monastery or MahaBodhi society at a walking distance from Mahabodhi temple.

 

Places to Explore:

Day 1

  • Bodhi Tree - it is believed that this tree is a direct descendant of the one under which the Buddha Sakyamuni attained enlightenment, inside the Mahabodhi complex.

  • Mahabodhi Stupa

  • 80-foot Buddha Statue

 

Food Exploring :

  • Cafe Om. Excellent pastries, great food too. This is the place where everybody meets everybody.

  • Be Happy Cafe (In front of the Vietnamese temple.The cafe specializes in thin crust pizzas, Italian pastas, sandwiches in thick bread, freshly made cakes, homemade granola for breakfast and a variety of coffees.

 

Day 2

 

  • Royal Bhutanese & Thai Monastery

  • Japanese temple 

  • Barabar caves, the oldest surviving rock-cut caves in India, mostly dating from the Mauryan period (322–185 BCE), and some with Ashokan inscriptions, located in the Jehanabad District, 24 km north of Gaya.

  • Taiwanese Temple (World Chonghwa Buddhist Sangha). 

Food Exploring :

  • Hari Om Cafe. Great and peaceful place.

  • The Olive- Excellent pasta dishes.

 

Leave: Gaya junction by Train-ANVT HWH EXP at 22.25 and reach Howrah by 06.00 am.
